The Netherlands are among the best lit countries in the world. A satellite picture of the Netherlands by night shows an almost fully lit landscape. This type of illumination is referred to as light pollution.I am fascinated by these glowing objects (that stood before me in daily life) and have tried to convert these satellite images to images shot from earth. The intent is not to show the night polluted by light, but more as a sign that humanity has conquered the night. In the metropolitan Randstad area real darkness is a thing of the past. I went from the isle of Texel to Hoek van Holland and places in between. The glow is everywhere, just like the traffic that caused the extra illumination.
